What makes a good Tweet?

It’s more than likely that you have a twitter account. Most businesses have one and if you don’t, you definitely should.

Having a Twitter account is vital in this day and age where every business should have a social media presence of some kind. You can reach new customers, listen to your current customers, promote your content and build strong relationships with your audience.

However, simply having a profile isn’t enough. You need to be creating engaging content that will not only land with your current followers but will also attract new potential customers to your profile.

There is a reason why some people get a solid following and others don’t get noticed. It’s all in the Tweet.

The first thing to ask yourself before you Tweet is – Who is your audience? You should use your knowledge of your current consumer base to determine the style of content you create. How old are they? What are their interests? How does your business fit into their lives? If you don’t know them. Follow them on twitter and see what they are tweeting about and sharing.

The more you know about your customers, the more suited your content can be to them.

First things to do before you Tweet:

  • Get a personality – Nobody wants to hear from the company that is always banging on about their products. Think about your tone of voice and how that will land with your followers.
  • Get involved – Engaging with other tweets shows you’re being sociable and care about your audience. This will result in more followers and a stronger relationship with your customers.
  • Get clued up – Before you start to tweet, see what others are doing. Social listening is great for discovering not only what is happening within your industry but also what your customers are talking about.

Qualities of a good Tweet:

  • Knowledge is power – A tweet should either inform or entertain in order to be successful. Links to your blog posts are a great way to generate traffic to your website. You could also consider creating an informative, but fun video content for a product or service you offer. Like a “how to” video or a quick video answering any frequently asked questions you receive.

  • You’re ‘avin a laugh!?  – Don’t be scared to try some humour. You will find that a joke, funny fact or a different tone of voice work particularly well. Nothing offensive though… that will have the adverse effect.

  • Personal touch – People buy from people and Twitter is a great channel to express your brand’s personality. Including things like opinions (nothing too controversial) and a sign-off name on your tweets can encourage users to connect with your twitter persona and engage with your content.

A good Tweet should ultimately;

– Be engaging, entertaining or informative
– Be Influential
– Fit into your social media strategy
– Get Retweeted by your influencers
