Google Analytics Will No Longer Support Official Compatibility with Microsoft Internet Explorer 9

Google recently announced it has stopped supporting Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 (IE9). As of the end of January 2015, anyone using Google Analytics in IE9 will no longer be able to get help with any of its features. You can continue to use Google Analytics in IE9, but you may experience problems and some features might not work correctly. This is part of Google’s ongoing policy of not supporting older browsers when it makes new software updates. So what is Google Analytics and will this announcement affect you?

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a free tool designed by Google for website publishers. As the name suggests, you can use Google Analytics to ‘analyse’ your website data and gain a better understanding of who is visiting your site, which pages they look at, and how long they stay. It can also tell you where your visitors are coming from and the referring website address.

Why Should Your Website Have Google Analytics?

The statistical information provided by Google Analytics can help you tweak your website for search engine optimisation and marketing purposes. Your dashboard is where the important information is found. From here, you can personalise Google Analytics depending on which information you want to see each time you log in.

The beauty of Google Analytics is that it lets you measure a range of different metrics. The data lets you see where traffic is coming from, so you can check whether your campaign is working.

Main Features of Google Analytics

The main features include:

  • Monitor advertising campaign performance
  • Analyse and test data
  • Get to know your audience
  • Full integration with Google Ads and Adsense
  • Monitor sales and conversions
  • Check website and app performance

Google is continually improving its software, but the latest analytics platform now tracks users across multiple devices and offers useful insights into visitors arriving via mobile apps. This allows you to track one unique visitor from the moment they arrive on your website to when they eventually checkout their purchase, even if they have switched from a mobile device to a laptop during that period.

Google Analytics is a powerful tool. It is also free to use for anyone with a Google account, so instead of wondering whether you need it, you should be asking why you don’t already have it! Google Analytics is a must-have piece of kit for all business owners and without it your business is missing out. If you need any help adding Google Analytics to your website, contact us today.
